If you haven’t seen my testimonial page, on it you’ll find feedback from some of the people who have invested in my collection in Kota. However today I wanted to dig a little deeper in to the story of one of my very first customers of the Kota collection. Sarah bought her Langoustine in the very early stages of the project. A full size print of this piece is on display in Kota now but this is the original. How does she feel about her piece now she and it have been together almost two years? Does she still love it?
Today I visited the studio space of Sarah Hardy - a Sports Therapist and Pilates Teacher. Langoustine hangs in what was once an old cowshed, the oak beams frame the space beautifully. We are embedded in the lush Cornish countryside. It’s a tranquil place.
Sarah tells me that she doesn’t usually buy art but my Crab and Langoustine pieces “Hit me between the eyes”. I asked her to tell me more:
“I love and eat shellfish but never have thought of owning a painting of them. I love the way you’ve captured its iridescence. The seemingly random strokes sweeping across the paper has bought the creature to life. The painting seems alive and 3D. I question how do you get that expression. No matter how many times I look at the painting I see something different”.
Here in Cornwall we are surrounded by the sea, Langoustine hangs to the right as you enter the studio and brings something of the sea into this tucked away location. Sarah tells me that clients arrive often from very busy lives, they enter this therapeutic space, it is soft, there is some imposing equipment but there is an intimacy in the colours and textures used. Langoustine helps to bring a connection to the sea, its wildness and power.
It’s been a delight to talk to people who buy my work, and to see where the artwork lands. Each space is unique and this studio really is.
