Individually sculpted paper birds come together in small gatherings or in larger flocks.

Farmhouse Flock

This image was taken in a friend's farmhouse while it was being renovated. The blank paper birds in an empty room which is in transition made for a striking image which went on to be reproduced as an 8'x6' canvas print now hanging in the same house as it was taken in.

Paper Sparrows

Inspired by memories of flocks of sparrows. These paper birds are made by hand with layers of folded paper, bound then polished. As with most paper items these birds age gracefully.

Flock Feet

This in a detail from an installation at an exhibition in East Grinstead. The light wood parquet floor was a happy accident, complementing the yellowish tones of the lacquered paper birds.

This study was an experiment in making birds which emerge from the sheets of paper from which they are formed.

Mini Worlds Gallery

Autumn Willow

This Mini-World was inspired by walks along the river Welland in Stamford. Capturing a moment where the autumn leaves blow in the wind, delicate and transient.

Silver Birch in Autumn

Using silk, linen, wool, kibiso silk and horse hair to build this mini-world. Each individual leaf is threaded onto the horsehair and secured into place with a knot.

Drawing

Observational drawing is central to my work. Touring the countryside I record the changes in the seasons. Transient moments captured through sketches and drawings on location. Inspired by the details found in the landscape particularly field margins, hedgerows and waste ground.
